FAQ
A few simple answers
-
How do I store ornaments for later use?
Ornaments may be stored in their original packaging in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year! They may be stored in tupperware containers in a freezer indefinitely. When thawed they should be removed from containers to allow for airflow.
-
How long do birdseed ornaments last outside?
Our ornaments are designed to be displayed as home/patio/garden decor. Ornament size, weather and number of bird visitors all affect how long they last. Our bird seed ornaments do not contain any lard, unlike store bought suet, and therefore will not “melt” in the sunshine. However, they may melt when exposed to prolonged rain or sprinklers. Please take this into consideration when placing them outdoors.
-
Do you sell bird seed ornaments wholesale for retailers?
Yes! We have a retail partner program with wholesale pricing for authorized Portland Craft Co retailers. See https://portlandcraftco.com/pages/retail-partner-program for more information.

What ingredients do you use in your recipe?
Since 2015, we’ve experimented and tweaked our recipe into what it is today. And while our recipe is unique to us, and somewhat of a family secret, a general list of ingredients can be found online. Everything in our recipe is bird friendly, nutrient rich, and we never add preservatives!

Are your ornaments “Made in the USA”?
Each and every ornament we make is hand-crafted in West Linn, just outside of Portland, Oregon. We source the vast majority of ourOur seed mix, and ingredients, decorative items, and packaging come from US manufacturers. Occasionally, a few of our items or packaging supplies may originate from outside of the US, however, we will continue to strive support US based suppliers whenever possible!

I’ve heard that bird seed ornaments wrapped in cellophane can mold. How do you prevent this?
We have taken moisture and mold into consideration when packaging our items. To avoid this we make sure each batch is 100% dry prior to packaging in cellophane. Ornaments packaged in our gift boxes are never wrapped in cellophane. They are nestled in crinkle cut paper inside a recycled tucked top box and shipped in a poly mailer. Packaging without cellophane ensures items will have enough air flow to remain mold free.

Why are you selling outside of the Etsy market?
We are so grateful to Etsy for giving us a wonderfully solid starting place. Etsy is essentially, where it all began for Portland Craft Co. And today, our Etsy store is alive and thriving in 2020, with our peak sales occur during the holiday months. As much as Etsy gives us a direct line to customers searching for items like ours, we still felt the need to branch out, to grow as a brand, to capture those returning customers and cultivate our products in ways we are unable to within the limits of the Etsy market place. With that said, Etsy is where our brand loyalty began!! And we are forever grateful. Looking to the future, we need customers like you to come back again and again in order to grow and bring you new, innovative, and cost friendly items!
